Peterborough – Chief Paul Cook of North Bay Police Service is the new President of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), succeeding Chief Steve Tanner of Halton Regional Police Service.

Chief Cook was sworn in at the OACP’s Annual General Meeting, which concludes in Peterborough today.

“Effective, professional, and accountable police services are what our citizens expect and deserve. Our commitment to excellence in policing is a core value for every police service in Ontario. At a time when questions are being asked about our policing model, Ontario’s police leaders have a duty to ensure they lead exceptional organizations that meet the safety needs of Ontarians across our great province” said Cook.

Chief Cook pledged to continue the work of Chief Tanner in ensuring that the views and issues of all police leaders are expressed through the work of the OACP.

“Our diversity is our strength. I have been impressed by how, when we work together, we can support our police officers to perform their duties with professionalism and integrity, and how we can work together with our police services boards and government partners to build healthy and safe communities” said Chief Cook.
