OPP issue 300 charges during the Operation Corridor

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid more than 300 charges during the Operation Corridor campaign, which was aimed at aggressive commercial truck drivers and unsafe commercial vehicles.

During the 24-hour campaign on June 17-18, 2013, the OPP partnered with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and other Ontario police services, stopping commercial vehicle drivers who displayed unsafe driving behaviour, those who drove poorly maintained trucks or trucks that did not meet emission standards.

Among the 318 charges laid by the OPP, 111 were equipment related and speeding was the second highest category with 86 charges being laid.

The remaining charges were related to use of out-of-service vehicles, seat belt use, impaired driving, other criminal offences and lack of, or tampered with speed limiters (which are mandated by Ontario law to cap the speed limit of trucks to a maximum of 105 kilometres per hour).
