Three new fires reported in the Northeast Region

Three new fires were reported on June 7. Wawa 4 and 5 were reported as 0.2 and 0.1 hectares respectively and both have been declared out. Timmins 2 is being held at 1.0 hectare in size.

Active Fires

There are no other active fires in the region.

Fire Hazard

The fire hazard is moderate to high throughout the northern half of the region.

Be FireSmart! Build a safe campfire, not a wildfire

Safe campfires are:
•Built on bare soil or exposed rock.
•Sheltered from the wind.
•Located at least three metres from the forest, overhanging branches or other flammable material.
•Small. A small fire is best for cooking, and is easier to control and put out. The forest is no place for a bonfire.
•Put out as soon as possible. How? Douse with water, then stir the ashes with a stick or shovel to uncover hot coals, and douse again.

Safe campfires have:
•A pail of water and a shovel at hand to control the fire.
•Someone tending them all the time.

If a forest fire results because you have used fire improperly, you could be held responsible for the costs of putting out the fire and for any property damage that occurs.

Residents in organized municipalities are reminded to check with local officials for burning restrictions that may be in place in their areas.
