OPP report phone service down in South River includes 911 Update

SOUTH RIVER - Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police Detachment would like to inform residents in the Village of South River that the phone lines and 9-1-1 services are restored and working properly.

The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police Detachment would like to advise residents of South River that the phone lines are currently not working, which includes 9-1-1 service. Cell phones are working in the area and residents are able to dial 9-1-1 using their cell phones. For non-emergency police matters people are asked to call 1-888-310-1122 from their cell phones.

People who do not have a cell phone and have an emergency are being asked to attend the South River/Machar Fire Department to report an emergency and fire fighters are able to dispatch police, fire and ambulance from their location. .

Bell Canada is currently looking into the problem. For updates people can check the South River/Machar Fire Department web site at www.srmfd.com.
