Soles for Africa is hosting its 4th annual fundraising golf tournament. The tournament will take place this Sunday June 2, 2013 at Pinewood Park Golf Course.

The cost for this two-person scramble is $65 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, a small bucket of range balls, a steak dinner and a silent auction. Mens, womens and mixed teams are welcome for the 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.

There are lots of prizes to be won including a door prize of two Maple Leafs tickets and a Hole in One Prize from True North!

Once again the Rotaract Club of North Bay - Nipissing has partnered with Soles for Africa in this endeavor. 50% of tournament profits will be donated through Soles for Africa to the Rotaract North Bay - Nipissing sponsored Dreams to Read International project. The remaining proceeds will benefit North Bay’s PADDLE program and the Soles for Africa education bursary.

For more information or to register a team call Pinewood Park Golf Course at 705-472-2264. The tournament director, Jason Berger, can be reached at 705-499-6826.

Soles for Africa is a local, grassroots initiative started by North Bay native, Jason Berger who discovered the desperate need for children’s shoes in Kenya while participating in a teaching placement in 2007. Berger returned to Kenya in August of 2011 and delivered over 400 pairs of children’s shoes, soccer balls and uniforms as well as school supplies to rural school children.

Locally, Soles for Africa has worked with the Rotaract Club of North Bay – Nipissing, Dreams to Read and the PADDLE program. These successes were made possible through the generous support of local businesses and organizations.

Future plans include working with Kenyan teachers to improve their training and teaching practices.
