Members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted aircraft speed enforcement on Saturday May 11, 2013 on Highway # 17 in Beaucage Township (Sturgeon Stretch).

The airplane, flying at 2500 feet above the highway worked in conjunction with two intercept highway units to conduct speed enforcement. A trained officer observes the highway from the airplane and using the precise measured painted lines on the highway is able to determine speeds of the vehicles below. Those speeds and the offending vehicles are relayed to the ground units and a traffic stop is initiated. On this day, close to a dozen speeding charges were laid including two vehicles for travelling over 50km/h above the posted speed limit. Charged with Stunt driving contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act are:

•Anthony LABERGE 42, of Sturgeon Falls – 145km/h in a posted 90km/h zone
