To celebrate literacy in elementary schools the Ontario Library Association (OLA) is hosting a three-day event from May 6 to 8 and invited some 2,000 children from the Near North District School Board (NNDSB) to visit with authors and speak directly to people such as members of the Canadian and United States military members whose organizations’ are the topic of various novels.

The OLA has organized the Forest of Reading program since 1995. The program encourages children from Kindergarten to grade 8 to read recreationally, reading five of the ten titles in their ready category. Participation from the elementary students in the NNDSB has grown from five schools and 100 students in 2006 to all thirty-six schools and 2,000 students in 2013, making this year's event in Parry Sound/North Bay the second largest in the province.

The men and women of 22 Wing/Canadian Forces Base North Bay represent North America’s best. They are highly trained professionals with a strong commitment both to their own country and to their community. Many Wing members dedicate their personal time to volunteer with various non-profit organizations in the local area, enhancing the quality of life for all those in the Nipissing District.
