The Friends of Laurier Woods, a non-profit charitable organization, will host Bill Steer, local author, historian and environmentalist at its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, May 15th, 6:00-9:00p.mat Guido & Arlene's Family Restaurant, 2195 Trout Lake Road, North Bay.

Bill Steer is author of over half-a-dozen books and heritage maps including his most recent publication,
“Steertonorthernontario.ca”. As well he writes and broadcasts stories pertaining to the natural and cultural history of northeastern Ontario under the banner of Backroads Bill.

Bill holds degrees and diplomas from Laurentian University, McMaster University and Durham College. He is the General Manager of the Canadian Ecology Centre, a leading environmental science/outdoor education centre. He
is also the Director and founder of the National Green Check GPS Certification Program. At the Annual Meeting Bill will be sharing some of his stories on the backroads of Nipissing.

The evening will begin with a reception at 6:00p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30p.m. The Friends of
Laurier Woods business meeting will run from 7:30-8:00p.m., followed by the Guest Speaker. During the business meeting the Board of Directors, consisting of 21 volunteer members, is elected for the year ahead. New members, those interested in the protection of this provincially significant wetland, are always welcome. Board members serve for a minimum one-year term and are expected to attend approximately 10 meetings a year. They may also participate on any of the committees established to oversee the planning and development of this 240-acre site.

Laurier Woods Conservation Area, within the heart of the City of North Bay, is owned and managed in partnership by The Friends of Laurier Woods and the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority. The Conservation Area, encompassing a provincially significant wetland, rocky outcrops and upland forest, is a sanctuary to a broad range of wetland and woodland creatures, including migrating birds. A 6.5 km trail network spans the site offering excellent opportunities for hiking and nature appreciation.

Tickets for the Annual General Meeting dinner are $25/person and are to be purchased in advance at the
