The Ministry of Resources is advising area residents that flooding in several water courses within the Sturgeon River and French River (downstream of the Public Works and Government Services Canada Dams) watersheds is imminent and may already be occurring.

Recent heavy rain and rapid snow melt has produced significant runoff to area lakes and rivers. Rivers have risen beyond bank full conditions with flooding occurring within low-lying areas along rivers and lakes.

The SturgeonRiver and French River will continue to experience high water levels and flows as the high inflows move downstream through the river systems which will result in the potential for property damage.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is advising area residents to take necessary action to protect property in flood prone areas within the French River and SturgeonRiver watershed. The public should exercise caution around fast flowing rivers.

The forecast is for warmer weather for the next few days with showers later in the week.

This warning will be updated on Wednesday April 24, 2013.

A separate flood watch has been issued for Lake Nipissing and the South River watershed.
