NORTH BAY – The Nipissing-Timiskaming Federal Liberals are pleased with the results of the leadership contest and are committed to working with the new leader and the Party in moving forward to the 2015 general election.

“Justin Trudeau ran a very well-organized and strong grass-roots campaign in every riding across Canada, including here in Nipissing-Timiskaming”, stated Bill Hagborg, local riding President and Justin Campaign Riding Captain.

“Mr. Trudeau represents the Party’s best chance at connecting with disenfranchised voters and the younger generation, many of who will be eligible to vote in 2015 for the first time”, he added.

While several members of the association executive worked on Justin Trudeau’s local riding campaign team, the association hosted several of the candidates in the riding over the past 5 months, including Mr. Trudeau.

The leadership contest generated a significant increase in the number of Liberal members and supporters in the riding. The new supporter category, introduced after the Biennial Convention held in January, 2012, allowed individuals to sign up to participate in the leadership vote.

A total of 319 votes were cast out of a possible 341 eligible voters, representing a turnout of 93.6% (the highest participation for northern Ontario). Justin Trudeau received 86.4 points out of a possible 100 points for the riding, with Joyce Murray a distant second at 8.8 points.
