The new Ontario government is helping students and young people find employment by offering 1,974 summer jobs in natural resource management.

The new day-based Stewardship Youth Ranger Program, one of several youth employment programs offered by the Ministry, will provide 180 youth and 45 supervisory staff in more than 30 communities across Ontario with valuable job skills and the chance to explore local career options.

In the Sault Ste. Marie area, three Stewardship Youth Ranger teams will work with local partners to complete more than 30 projects during their eight weeks of summer employment. Local communities will also enjoy economic benefits from the Stewardship Youth Ranger Program, as the rangers are employed in the same areas in which they live.
Supporting youth employment and helping young people get summer jobs is part of the new Ontario government's plan to create a fair society and a strong economy.

QUOTES

“Our government recognizes the value of investing in summer job opportunities for young people. The summer employment opportunities offered through the Ministry of Natural Resources supports the development of Ontario’s next generation of workers by helping youth develop new skills, gain practical work experience in their own communities and contribute to their local economy.”
– David Orazietti, Minister of Natural Resources

“The Summer Co-op Credits initiative for the Stewardship Youth Ranger Program is a wonderful opportunity for students in the Algoma district. It will provide additional options for Cooperative Education or Specialist High Skills Majors programs. The ranger program is an innovative way to engage students in learning beyond the walls of classrooms because students will gain practical work experience and may be able to obtain two high school co-op credits.”
– Lucia Reece, Director of Education, Algoma District School Board
