Canadore set to host energy fair

Canadore is hosting its First Annual Energy Fair in collaboration with Honeywell on April 2.


This January, the Conference Board of Canada issued Canada with a C grade for its environmental efficiency, ranking 15 out of 17 among developed nations. The same report claims that Canadians consume way too much energy and water, and produce more garbage per capita than any other country around the globe.


Shawn Chorney, Vice-President of Student Services, says that it’s impossible to miss headlines like these and wanted to bring a higher level of awareness to Canadore and the community.


“I think we are all basically aware of the issues, but sometimes feel overwhelmed about how to actually make a difference,” said Chorney. “Hosting this fair supports our college and broader community to change our behaviours and resource consumption habits for the better in many different ways.”


The College began encouraging more sustainable living and working within its walls in March with its Earth Action Challenge Week. Students, employees, and the general public were invited to post their pledges for a greener lifestyle at www.canadorecollege.ca/I-Pledge.


The school is also collaborating with Honeywell, a global energy services leader, to finds ways to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions tied to campus facilities.


Next week’s Energy Fair will be an opportunity to learn more about reducing energy consumption, waste management, and more. Over 20 exhibitors will be on-site showcasing eco-friendly products like electric and hybrid vehicles, free energy conservation giveaways including blue spruce saplings, mini iPads and much more!
