Former NDP MPP Peter Kormos has died.

Kormos, a fixture of the Ontario New Democratic Party and one of the longest-serving members at Queen's Park, was first elected to the legislature in 1988 where he served the Welland area for 23 years till his move to municipal politics last year.

Kormos, a lawyer by trade, was known to speak his mind and didn’t back down from a fight, often used lively antics in the legislature to make a point including wearing a tuxedo in the House in 2004, the day Former Nipissing MPP Monique Smith’s dress code bill passed.

Kormos, 60, died Saturday morning at his home in Welland.

The cause of death is unknown at this time.
