City man charged with impaired and flight from police

On Wednesday March 27, 2013 at 8:10 am, the North Bay Police Service advised members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) of a stolen vehicle that was observed in the city of North Bay heading towards Highway #11. Shortly thereafter, at 8:18 am, a Powassan Detachment member of the OPP observed the stolen pick-up truck south bound on Highway # 11 at English Line just south of Powassan.

The driver of the stolen vehicle failed to stop for the police when directed and a pursuit was engaged. The pursuit continued for 8.3 kilometres from Highway # 11 into Trout Creek ending on McFadden Line when the driver of the vehicle entered the north ditch. The vehicle driver then fled on foot into the bush. A large contingent of OPP officers from the Powassan and North Bay Detachments as well as members of the Highway Safety Division, Emergency Response Team supported by the Canine Unit descended on the scene within minutes. The Canine officer and his partner located and arrested the accused shortly after his arrival in the bush. The incident and arrest were completed without incident or injuries shortly after 9:15 am.

Daniel DOLBECK (19yrs) of North Bay is charged with the following offences:

* Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

* Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

* Flight from Police contrary to section 249.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

* Dangerous Operation of the Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

* Possession of Stolen Property over $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

* Breach of Probation contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

DOLBECK was held in custody and will appear in North Bay Court this morning for a bail hearing.
