The 2013 Water and Wastewater Budget is demonstrative of Council’s and Staff’s commitment to address health and safety requirements, support growth and development, and enhance municipal services.

In addition to the open Budget process, Council requested public comment and held a Public Meeting on March 5, 2013 whereby the proposed Water and Wastewater Rates were presented. Council passed a Bylaw adopting the 2013 Water and Wastewater Rates on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.

The 2013 Water and Wastewater Budget Major and Critical Infrastructure Projects include the following:

 De-Sludging of the Municipal Sewage Lagoons, which is to be completed over 2 years;

 Sealing and Rehabilitation of Underground Sewers;

 Rehabilitation of the Drinking Water Tower and the Installation of a new Water Mixing System;

 Replacement of Water Meters; and

 Ongoing Water Testing and the Development of a Long-Term Strategy to deal with Water Discolouration.

The 2013 Water Rate is set at $10.29/1,000 gallons of water. The 2013 Wastewater Rate (being 124% of the Water Rate), is set at $12.76/1,000 gallons. This represents an average monthly increase of $9.04 for Residential Water and Wastewater Users. These Rates will put Callander squarely in line with its long term Water Financial Plan, thereby ensuring that the Municipality will be on track with respect to meeting current and future capital replacements and enhancements, as well as the continued provision of reliable services.

Council wishes to thank the citizens of Callander for their valuable input throughout 2012 and during the 2013 Budget process.
