Communities across Canada are looking to the Federal Government to use this budget to help deal with a sluggish economic recovery, a stalling job market, stagnant wages, record high levels of household debt, inadequate employment insurance coverage, and a lack of retirement security - not more cuts to balance the books. Canadians expect their Federal Government to tackle REAL problems in the 2013 Federal Budget.

On Thursday, March 21st, Finance Minister Flaherty will deliver the federal budget. Flaherty has said we should expect a “bare bones budget” with a focus on moving towards balancing the budget by 2015.

North Bay and District Labour Council President Henri Giroux stated “In light of Canada’s current economic situation it is critical that this budget does not take action that will further erode workers’ wages and public services. Now is not the time for more austerity cuts to government spending. In Budget 2013, Canada needs strategic investment that stimulates, strengthens and diversifies the economy and supports workers that have been hit hard by recession.”
