Greening Nipissing invites you to celebrate World Water Day at the World Water Day Festival and Water Walk being held in North Bay, ON.

Admission is free and open to the public.

On Saturday, March 23rd Greening Nipissing, in partnership with the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority and local business, LiquidTech, is proud to announce the 2nd Annual World Water Day Festival taking place from 12:00pm – 4:00pm at St. Andrews United Church, 399 Cassells St. North Bay, ON.

As a kick off to the festival, from 10:30am-11:30am, there will be a guided Water Walk along the new Chippewa Creek EcoPath. Walk participants should meet at Memorial Gardens south parking lot at 10:00 am.

The festival includes free water film screenings, workshops and vendors for all ages. At 1:00pm there will be a “Water Sports Clinic” workshop by Lefebvre’s Source for Adventure and children’s workshops by the Canadian Ecology Centre. Films being shown include “Sea Turtle”, “The Water Brothers: The Big Thaw”, and “Polar Explorer”. At 2:00pm there will be a speaker series, starting off with a proclamation by Mayor Al Macdonald, followed by water talks from Dr. Dan Walters, Associate Professor of Geography at Nipissing University, and Brennain Lloyd, Director of NorthWatch.

Greening Nipissing would like to thank its partners and sponsors LiquidTech, Average Joe’s, North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority, Chippewa Creek EcoPath, and the Ontario Trillium Foundation for supporting World Water Day 2013.

World Water Day is a United Nations international celebration of water that happens annually in March. This year, 2013 is the “International Year of Water Co-operation.” Access to water can be a source of conflicts, but it is also a catalyst for cooperation and peace building. Cooperation on such a practical and vital issue as water management can help overcome cultural, political and social tensions, and can build trust between different groups, communities, regions or states.

Greening Nipissing is a not-for-profit registered charity with a mission to educate, promote, and encourage environmentally-friendly practices for individuals, organizations, and businesses in North Bay and area. Greening Nipissing celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2012 and is a member of Green Communities Canada and the Ontario Environment Network.
