Joint OPP & MNR patrols result in charges

CITY OF TEMISKAMING SHORES - Members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and the OPP’s Northeast Region Snow Machine, All Terrain Vehicle, and Vessels Enforcement (S.A.V.E.) Team joined forces with Officers from the Ministry of Natural Resources in New Liskeard to conduct joint snowmobile patrols over the Family Day long weekend.
The Officers patrolled large sections of the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club trails, including Temiskaming, Temagami, and Lady Evelyn Lakes and several smaller lakes and connecting trails in the remote areas.
As a result, several charges were laid under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, Ontario Fishery Regulations, Liquor licence Act, and the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act, including:
- Possession of more than the legal limit of lake trout
- Possession of illegal “slot size” walleye
- Fishing using lines left set overnight
- Fishing using too many lines
- Illegal possession of open liquor
- Operating a snowmobile without wearing a helmet
- Operating a snowmobile without insurance
- Fail to Produce Evidence of Insurance
Further, a motorized snow vehicle stop on Lake Temiskaming on February 19th at approximately 6:30 p.m. resulted in a drinking and driving charge.
The OPP is committed to saving lives on Ontario’s highways, trails and waterways through the reduction of preventable injury and death
