Representatives from the General Chairperson’s Association (GCA) which represents all unionized employees at Ontario Northland (ONTC) are encouraged by recent media reports about the Wynne government’s willingness to receive input from community leaders and other stakeholder’s about the ONTC through a working group or committee.

“The GCA met with the Ministers of Northern Development and Mines and the Minister of Infrastructure last December regarding the ONTC and the New Deal and would welcome the opportunity to participate in this Northern committee”, said GCA Spokesperson Brian Kelly.

“This would be a significant first step in bringing First Nations partners, stakeholders including North Eastern and North Western Communities, the GCA, vital industry leaders and potential future customers from the Ring of Fire, along with representatives from the Provincial and Federal Government together for the benefit of the entire region and Province”, added Kelly.

“We believe there is an alternative to divestiture and with all stakeholders input a plan can be developed to revitalize the ONTC so that it could play a lead and expanding role in developing opportunities such as the Ring of Fire for the benefit of Ontarians now as well as for future generations”, concluded Kelly.
