POWASSAN – Members of the Powassan Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment have received an alarming number of calls for service with respect to thefts, mischiefs and break and enters surrounding insecure vehicles, homes and other outbuildings. This trend began prior to Christmas, but already since January 1, 2013 there have been 8 criminal acts reported.

The Municipality of Powassan and the Powassan OPP want to remind and urge all residents to lock your vehicles at all times and ensure that all valuables are out of sight or not inside at all. Lock all sheds as well as your home, even if you are just gone for a moment to pick something up at the store.

OPP detachment members, along with the assistance of the Criminal Investigations Unit continue to investigate these crimes and will lay all appropriate charges when they are solved. Breaking into vehicles or causing unnecessary damages to people’s property is not a game; they are criminal offences and will be treated as such. If anyone has any information relating to these crimes, they are urged to call the Powassan OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
