Nipissing MPP and PC Energy Critic Vic Fedeli is pleased with his re-appointment Wednesday to the Ontario Legislature’s Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs.

“I’m pleased to have a role on this committee at such a critical time for Ontario’s precarious fiscal position,” Fedeli said.

“Ontario needs to address its jobs and debt crisis with bold, decisive action now, and I look forward to discussing some of the ideas the Ontario PC party has put forward through our Paths to Prosperity white papers.”

With the Standing Committees being re-established by the government, Fedeli intends to introduce a motion to have the Auditor General investigate the Liberal government’s financial claims regarding their fire sale of Ontario Northland.

“I have maintained from the beginning that this fire sale will achieve no savings, and continue to believe that. We need answers that only the Auditor can provide,” said Fedeli, who outlined his concerns to the Auditor General in a letter last fall.

Fedeli noted the Standing Committee on Justice will investigate the cover-up and withholding of documents surrounding the Oakville and Mississauga gas plant cancellations. But the Ontario PC party will also continue to push the Premier to hold to her written pledge to form a select committee to investigate the billion-dollar gas plant scandal itself, Fedeli added.

“The Premier now appears to be backtracking on her written promise to get to the bottom of this debacle which has cost taxpayers and ratepayers $1.3 billion or maybe more,” said Fedeli.

“Ontarians deserve to know exactly how much they’re on the hook for, and who ordered the cancellation of the Oakville and Mississauga power plants.”
