On Thursday, February 14, at 7:00 p.m., Chippewa Secondary School is hosting an information session for parents and students in Grades 6, 7 and 8. This session will help parents and students to become aware of all the exciting opportunities that are offered at the school, from opportunities for students to develop their skills as effective leaders to all-year programs in math, business technology and French.

Starting in September 2013, students will have an opportunity to expand their interests in mathematics, business, technology, and the French language by participating in all year programs offered at Chippewa. These programs encourage students to be innovative and creative by providing them with opportunities to explore and discover business, mathematics and technology in non-traditional ways through project-based activities.

Students will benefit from developing project management, reasoning and research skills and will be more prepared for the workplace and post-secondary education.

Also new this year, Chippewa is offering grade 12 students a university level course designed to further develop their skills to become effective leaders in both their post-secondary and future pursuits. The emphasis of the course is on developing public speaking, time management, teamwork and organizational skills. With an emphasis of volunteer leadership experience playing an increasingly important part in scholarship and employment applications today, successful completion of this credit will help provide students with advanced skills for their futures.

Everyone is excited to announce that Chippewa was chosen as the secondary school for the OHL North Bay Battalion. To date, the school will be welcoming 9 players for September 2013.

"I am very pleased that the North Bay Battalion recognized the quality of our academic programs at Chippewa that is in-line with the Battalion's commitment to providing strong educational pathways for its players. This will provide a great opportunity for students at Chippewa to support such a worthwhile recreation and entertainment community initiative," said Chippewa principal Lucio Pavone.

Parents and students are encouraged to attend the information session for more information.
