Snowfall warning issued for the area

As of 6:59PM Saturday, Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa and West Nipissing - French River

15 to 20 cm snow tonight.

A low pressure system is tracking across Lake Superior into Northeastern Ontario tonight. An area of snow ahead of the low is spreading quickly east across the district. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm are likely by the time the snow ends on Sunday morning. In addition, brisk north to northwest winds gusting to 60 km/h will develop tonight resulting in reduced visibility in blowing snow in exposed areas.

Hazardous winter driving conditions from very low visibility in heavy snow and local blowing snow are expected. Motorists should adjust travel plans accordingly.

A strong Alberta clipper will sail across the Upper Great Lakes today then through Northeastern Ontario into Western Quebec tonight. Snow from a separate weaker disturbance will taper off to scattered flurries this morning. However the break will be short lived and snow from the clipper will quickly spread east across the districts by this evening.
