Festive RIDE program officially underway

Monday, December 03, 2012   by: Kate AdamsMembers of the Anishnabek and Military Police Services talk about safe and sober driving with motorists during the Festive RIDE checkpoint kickoff on Lee's Road Friday night.

North Bay OPP, North Bay Police Service, Military Police, Anishnabek Police Service in conjunction with their community partners MADD were all out in full force Friday night to officially launch the Holiday Ride Program.

OPP Inspector Mark Andrews says while law enforcement agencies run RIDE programs all year long, they want to reinforce the message over the holiday season when there people are attending a number of social events that drinking and driving will not be tolerated.

He says people need to stop and think what taking that chance can mean not only to them but their families and perfect strangers.

“The big reason that we are doing this tonight, the kickoff, is to let the public know and get the conversation going at home,” he states.

“You see all of the services here together working; North Bay City, Anishnabek, the Military, the QPF, the OPP … we’re all here and that’s to let all the people know that it doesn’t matter where you go, if you are going to drive impaired you’re going to run into one of us -- regardless of what’s on our shoulder and we’re going to charge you and arrest you and get you off the road and keep it safe.”

RIDE checkpoints reinforce the message to people that in this day and age there is no excuse to drink and drive.
