Gold medal week for 22 Wing

Members of 22 Wing/CFB North Bay have a reason to be brag as twice in one week a number deserving men and women were celebrated for their service excellence.

On Wednesday Brigadier-General Martin Galvin, Commander 2 Canadian Air Force Division and former 22 Wing Commander presented Six members of 22 Wing/CFB North Bay with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Operation Unified Protector (OUP) - Libya medal.

The medals are in recognition of their participation and contribution to the NATO-led operation to protect the people of Libya with the enforcement of an arms embargo and no-fly zone. Individuals eligible for this medal must have served for 30 consecutive or 60 cumulative days as part of, or in direct support of the operation within the political boundaries, territorial waters and airspace of Libya, as well as in or over the central southern Mediterranean Sea, at the support Bases of Trapani and Sigonella (Italy) and at NATO and Canadian Supporting Headquarters in Naples and Poggio Renatico (Italy).

On Thursday a very proud 22 Wing Commander Colonel Conrad Namiesniowski handed out 34 Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medals.

Throughout the year 60 000 Jubilee Medals will be handed out across the country, of those approximately one in every ten Canadian Forces (CF) members will receive the medal.
