With corks popped and champagne flowing Nipissing University celebrated its 20th anniversary in style Thursday.

The event, hosted in the Robert J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre, featured a special live music number and champagne toast led by former university president Dr. Dave Marshall, who led the charge for the charter in 1992.

The university received its charter as an independent degree granting university in 1992.

Since receiving the charter the university has expanded to 6,000 students and opened campuses in Bracebridge and Brantford.

Marshall says while he wasn't sure how the path would be carved by Nipissing but knows the key to continued success for the university is to continue to focus on student needs, delivering top of the line education and have fun.
