The AIDS Committee of North Bay & Area (ACNBA) will be marking World AIDS Day, December 1, 2012, with a presentation and Memorial Lanterns Launch ceremony at the Ferguson Block Parkette in downtown North Bay as part of its AIDS Awareness Week (AAW) activities.
AAW officially runs from November 24th, 2012, leading up to December 1, 2012, World AIDS Day. ACNBA kicked off AAW with its “Paint the Town Red” Gala, Saturday, November 24th at The Wall, Nipissing University/Canadore College Student Centre.
Communities around the world take part in this annual, week-long event to raise AIDS awareness and to commemorate the approximately 34 million people who have been lost to HIV/AIDS. 2012 marks the 31st year of the AIDS epidemic.
World AIDS Day Ceremony:
WHERE: The Ferguson Block Parkette, Fraser & Main Street W., North Bay
WHEN: Saturday, December 1st, 2012, 10:00 am
WHO: Mayor Al McDonald will read the official city proclamation

AIDS Awareness Week (AAW) events:

• World AIDS Day proclamation and Memorial Lanterns Launch
• sections from the Canadian AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display at various locations around the city
• ACNBA's information booth will be on hand at Nipissing University/Canadore College
• HIV/AIDS presentations will take place throughout the week at various locations
• North Bay art galleries and tattoo studios will pay tribute to Day Without Art (December 1, 2012) with displays at their locations
