YMCA announces peace medallion recipients

From November 17 – 24, YMCA Peace Week invites people of all ages to reflect on peace, to talk, and to take action, individually and with others. A special highlight of this week is the presentation of the YMCA Peace Medal to an individual or group who, without any special resources, demonstrates a commitment to peace through individual contributions made within their community or overseas.

A special highlight of the week is the awarding of the YMCA Peace Medallion to an individual or group who, without any special resources, demonstrates a commitment to peace through special contributions made within their community or overseas.

The 2012 Adult Peace Medallions will be presented to:


· Don Wheeler – Being recognized as a committed, dedicated and compassionate humanitarian who has spearheaded the ShelterBox campaign for the Rotary Club of North Bay. ShelterBox delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disasters worldwide.

· Sandra Hague – Being recognized as a compassionate, visionary and committed humanitarian whose efforts throughout the world have created a safer place for all concerned. Sandra is a member of the World Community Service Committee with the Rotary Club of North Bay. She has championed the eradication of land mines throughout the world.

The 2012 Youth Peace Medallion will be presented to:


· Katie Fettes – A Grade 12 honour role student from Widdifield Secondary School, Katie Fettes worked on a Youth Philanthropy Initiative to raise awareness for the Amelia Rising Sexual Assault Centre and is an active member of the Best Buddies program, working with developmentally challenged youth. Katie is also involved with Free the Children, participating in a “Me to We” leadership and learning field trip to Kenya.

When: Friday, November 23rd at 2:30pm
Where: YMCA of North Bay, 186 Chippewa Street West
(Light snacks and beverages will be served following the ceremony)
