An Operational Review of the North Bay Regional Health Centre began last week with a final report expected in January. The review will help to update the Hospital’s Improvement Plan (HIP), which includes a balanced budget and operating position into the future.

“As with other sectors, health is undergoing huge financial pressures,” stated President and CEO Paul Heinrich. “We have voluntarily asked for a third party review of our operations to look for efficiencies and areas of improvement. We want to probe every aspect of our organization and identify every uncomfortable truth so that we can deal with our issues, plan for our future and continue to provide the best service with the resources we have available.”

Heinrich added, “We are looking for real intelligence that will help us answer questions such as:

• What are strategic implications of our current reality?

• Where do we want to take the organization?

• What is the organizational capacity to implement recommendations from the review?

• What can we do in the short, the medium and the long term?”

Along with the review the hospital is developing a Strategic Plan that will drive the outcomes and recommendations of the Operational Review and the plan is expected to be completed by March 31, 2013.

Board Chair and Strategic Planning Steering Committee Chair, Phil Geden further explained, “It is the strategic planning process that is going to give stakeholders: patients, families, staff, physicians, volunteers, community partners and general public the opportunity to be heard, get involved and participate in shaping our future.”

“Requests for participation will be well advertised in the new year and we invite you to participate in whatever forms of engagement we set up to get your input,” added Geden.
