It was just 11 short months ago that Shawn Devine was promoted from Staff/Sergeant to inspector and on Monday he took another major step up the blue ladder as he was officially sworn in as Deputy Chief of the North Bay Police Service.

Devine, a long-time resident of North Bay, was sworn in as a constable with the North Bay Police Service in 1988 and served in Patrol, Administration and Criminal Investigation Sections. He was also seconded to work with the RCMP in February 2009 to assist with planning the G8 and G20 Summits.

“I would say it’s been an interesting road, some of it had been rather quick it has been a lot of work but truly policing has been my passion for the last 30 years and it’s been good,” says Devine of his rise up the blue ladder.

While pleased with his advancement, Devine knows there are great challenges ahead and is prepared for them.

Police Chief Paul Cook, who was Deputy Chief before his promotion to Chief, knows the gruelling work that goes in to achieving this level and says Devine is more than up to the task.
