Are you interested in the recreational activities and sustainability of the trails at Laurentian Escarpment Conservation Area (LECA)?

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority is inviting public participation on an Advisory Group to discuss use and management of the trails at the LECA. LECA currently includes two multi-use trails (1.9 km and 6.4 km) designed for recreation, appreciation and land conservation. NBMCA manages these trails which cross properties that are owned by NBMCA and private property owners.

Members on the Advisory Group shall represent the perspective of a variety of users, ages, and ability levels as well as activities such as bird watching, dog walking, cross country running, hiking, research, nature appreciation, snowshoeing. (Please note that motorized vehicles are not permitted in the LECA or on the trails.)

There are three volunteer positions available to represent users other than mountain bikers. The mountain bike community has already submitted the names of representatives following a Town Hall meeting in October.

Anyone interested in applying for one of the three positions available are invited to complete an application, indicating their activity of interest. Forms are available on www.nbmca.on.ca or at the NBMCA offices at 15 Janey Ave. Deadline for submission is November 23, 2012. The first meeting of the LECA Advisory Group will be in early December.

Although all applications will be considered, only three positions are available to be filled. For further information, contact: Troy Storms, Field Operations Supervisor, [email protected] or call 705 474-5420.
NBMCA manages 16 Conservation Areas and trails in the watershed. The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) was founded in 1972 by the Province of Ontario and the NBMCA’s 10 member municipalities. A non-profit organization, the NBMCA works closely with the public to balance human needs with the environmental needs of the region’s watershed. The NBMCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities who are members of Conservation Ontario.
