October means two things to West 49: their birthday (17 years!) and the start of the 10th Annual West 49 Coats for Kids campaign. West 49 customers have consistently delivered strong community support by donating coats for kids who don’t have adequate winter clothing and this year West 49 wants every kid to be able to participate in outdoor activities and be warm this winter. Since 2002 more than 80,000 kids have received winter coats as a result of this program.

“Our customers are aware of the important role they play in helping us meet our target for coats. In partnering with local charitable organizations we have an excellent opportunity to be proactive in helping less fortunate families,” said Lisa Stuve, Marketing Manager for West 49. “We are sure we can collect and distribute even more coats to help spread the warmth this winter and are challenging our customers with a goal of 10,000 coats nationally.”

West 49 Coats for Kids campaign begins on October 11th and runs through to November 21st. Coat collection barrels will be placed in each and every store. Everyone who brings in a clean, insulated gently used winter coat to any West 49 store across Canada will receive $25 off any winter jacket. Donated jackets will then be given to various youth shelters and charities across the country. What is unique about this campaign is that each store partners with a local charity in their area – so people in their community benefit from this program. In past campaigns, coats have been provided to organizations such as: Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Canadian Diabetes Association, Salvation Army, The United Way and local youth shelters and missions across the country.
Over the years West 49 stores have received heartfelt thanks and touching stories from their store staff and customers about Coats for Kids. This year, West 49 is encouraging their customers to share these stories and thanks through a web site that demonstrates how this campaign has touched people’s lives.

Since 2002 West 49 has been collecting coats for kids who need to keep warm in the winter. Year one secured a few thousand coats and since then West 49 has collected and donated more than 80,000 jackets to needy families across Canada. It is due to vendor partnerships with great brands like Billabong, Element, Ripzone, Roxy, DC and Burton who have been long-time supporters of this campaign.
