Flu clincs set to go ahead

The Health Unit’s annual flu shot clinics begin today using Vaxigrip and Fluviral vaccines, which are not affected by Health Canada’s temporary suspension of other flu vaccines. The Health Unit’s first community flu shot clinic of the season is scheduled today from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Sturgeon Falls Center. Parry Sound’s first clinic is set to go Tuesday afternoon at the Parry Sound Mall, and North Bay’s first clinic is scheduled for Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Elk’s Lodge.

The majority of the Health Unit’s vaccine stock consists of Vaxigrip and Fluviral vaccines, which are not affected by the suspension. The affected vaccines, though part of our initial supply, have been removed from inventory.

 The federal suspension of Agriflu and Fluad is a precautionary measure and no adverse affects have been reported from their use.

 The Health Unit has notified all health professionals on our distribution list about the suspension.
