McGuinty issues statement on Wawa state of emergency

Saturday, October 27, 2012   by: Kate AdamsToday, Premier Dalton McGuinty released the following statement on the declaration of a state of emergency by the Municipality of Wawa:

“Following a night of heavy rain, the Municipality of Wawa has declared a state of emergency as a result of severe flooding. Our government has been in contact with Wawa Mayor Linda Nowicki to offer support during this challenging time.

Local officials and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are co-ordinating response to the flooding in the Lake Superior area. Emergency Management Ontario (EMO) is ready to co-ordinate provincial assistance should it become necessary. The OPP has responded to calls for help and evacuated residents isolated when roads were washed out by the rushing water. No one has been injured.

Michipicoten First Nation has also declared a state of emergency. Local roads and highways there are also affected by the heavy rainfall. The OPP advises that Highway 17 at Wawa is closed in both directions and encourages motorists to stay off the roads. Work is currently underway to reopen the road.

The storm has also caused a disruption of 9-1-1 services in Michipicoten First Nation and Dubreuilville. Bell Canada is working to re-establish the service. EMO has deployed a field officer and is in contact with local officials to provide advice and relay any requests for assistance.

It is my understanding the situation is improving and that one road is now passable. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people in the area, and we hope this situation is remedied without lasting harm. We’ll continue to monitor progress closely, and we are prepared, if called upon, to take action to help the people of Wawa and the Michipicoten First Nation.”

Dalton McGuinty is Premier of the province until a new leader of the provincial LIberal party is chosen. He announced that he WILL BE stepping down.
He continues to oversee provincial issues as he should and there is certainly no reason to criticize him for that.

The right is all about anger. Both here and south of tje border. Mr. McGuinty responds quickly to real humanitarian emergencies. Not so quickly to fear based right wing manufactured crisis.

If you back up McGuinty then you must like being lied too, a man that takes our hard earned cash and wastes it, I have no respect to that liar. He's only giving support because he has too

Lotsa right wing anger and name calling. Mr. McGuinty took ovrr a huge debt and deficit from Harris\Eves\Hudak and had us in the black until big business caused the big ressesion. So it takes time to get out these messes. They all lie but the right lies with anger and hatred.

So if McGuinty is still in charge, just why did he prorogue the legislature?
Want to bet if he comes for a view he won't dare to land?
And for IGuard - remember "No new taxes", "My government will never privatize the ONTC",E-Health, ORNGE, cancelling 2 power plants for votes at the cost to the taxpayer of at least $440M, etc etc

and other than making press announcements, just what is McGuinty really doing to help Wawa? I'll bet nothing, nothing at all

Oh I remeber. Like I said right wing smear and fear. Remeber Harris' government promising the new superjail in Penetang would be Public? They gave, yes gave it to a private company. It had to be taken back over by provincial corrections because they couldnt run it. Remeber the promises to nurses by the Harris PC's? 7,000 let go. Remeber the balanced books. 6billion in the red when the last pc's left. Dont forget the portable shredding truck outside themin of finance for days before the pc's left. Remeber the superjail promised by Harris for North Bay? Well it ended up being shelved and was only about 190 beds all in. Superjails typically have 1,200 plus beds. The vast majority of our deficit and debt was caused by rich scumbags, oh sorry I meant to say heroic job creators. He prorogued because it is an option in our system. Just like Harper, Cretien and others have done. Talk about waste? here is a small example of right wing sleaze, you know the bit stimulus add signs and commercials? That is your tax dollars being used to sell the Federal PC's. So when you single someone out to mock, don't hide behind a fake moniker.Paddy Morris

neither left wing nor right wing - just an annoyed Ontario taxpayer who's dealing with current affairs not past history that cannot be changed. Whereas McGuinty's continued mismanagement CAN change the balance of my bank account for the worse
