Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli will take some 3,000 petitions calling for a New Deal for Ontario Northland to present to the Ontario Legislature.

The petitions were delivered to Fedeli’s constituency office today by North Bay Mayor Al McDonald.

“I’m very much looking forward to presenting these petitions, just as I was pleased to present the 5,000 petitions the ONTC unions had collected last year when the Liberal government gave the refurbishment contract to Quebec,” said Fedeli.

“In fact, I am among those who’ve signed one of the cards calling for a New Deal for Ontario Northland.”

Fedeli noted the ONTC fire sale that the McGuinty Liberals have conducted over the past six months is “cold, callous and diabolical,” and was done with no consultation with Northerners.

“Over the past few months, I have worked diligently to show this government that there are NO savings to be had from this fire sale. In fact, I have called for the Auditor General to look into this, said Fedeli.

“The Ontario PC party views Ontario Northland as critical infrastructure for private sector job creation and economic development in the North,” Fedeli added.

“We need to transfer the ONTC from the Ministry of Northern Development to the Ministry of Transportation, where it would have greater access to the capital envelope.”
