Alzheimer Society of North Bay set to mark silver anniversary

In November of 1986, a steering committee was formed around a dining room table. Three healthcare professionals, Sheryl Norrie, Marg Shields and Beth Campbell gathered together in order to put the wheels in motion for an established Alzheimer Society to meet the needs of the North Bay community. Applications for Chapter status as well as the incorporation process was successful, and their first official meeting was held in 1987.

Fast-forward 25 years, and the Alzheimer Society of North Bay and District now celebrates these three founding members and the services that have since been provided for countless families, caregivers and people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.

The Alzheimer Society is pleased to announce a celebration event at the Clarion Resort Pinewood Park on Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012 at 7:00 pm.


The event will include a light reception with complimentary refreshments and an educational presentation by a guest speaker; Dr. Maurice St. Martin of Sudbury who will address the ‘Challenges of Dementia, from Diagnosis to Management.’ Dr. St. Martin is a very dynamic speaker with a passion for senior care, which is evident in his presentation. He has been practicing medicine for over 25 years and is currently the Medical Director for Pioneer Manor, one of the largest long-term care facilities in Ontario.

The 25th Anniversary event is free, opens to the public, and is ideal for families and caregivers, or anyone who has been affected by this harrowing disease. It is also great for healthcare professionals or anyone who would like to learn more about the disease. The opening reception will begin at 7:00 pm with presentation beginning at 7:30 pm.
