United Way staff and the 2012 Campaign Committee celebrated North Bay’s Inaugural Campaign Kick-Off at Discovery North Bay on Friday.

Surrounded by community leaders, dedicated workplace volunteers and United Way member agencies, Katina Matheson, North Bay Community Capacity Coordinator, introduced the Campaign Committee who unveiled the 2012 Campaign Goal of $85,000. The Campaign Kick-Off celebrates United Way’s presence in the Nipissing District following a local office opening earlier this year and a recent name change that is more representative of both communities.

“We are happy to have a local presence and offer greater support to the businesses and social service agencies whose collective efforts have helped to build a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous community,” says Katina Matheson.

“It is exciting to be officially launching our first Campaign here in the Nipissing District,” said Michael Cullen, Executive Director for United Way.

“On behalf of our Board of Directors, I would like to thank all the workplace campaigns that have supported North Bay and District over the years; we look forward to continue working with you. We also look forward to fostering new relationships with other workplaces in the community.”

Funds raised in 2011 exceeded $50,000 and provided funding to 8 local social service programs in North Bay that offer urgent services to people when they need it most.

Money raised will also increase United Way’s ability to support the social service sector in the North Bay area by providing leadership and training to dozens of agencies. The goal for 2012 will allow United Way to expand the programs and training that are available.

“The Campaign Committee looks forward to working with the community to meet this year’s Campaign goal. The money raised will fund local programs that provide services to those in need. The need is great and together we can make a difference,” said Dr. Catherine Whiting on behalf of the Campaign Committee.
