Speeding leads to drug and alcohol charges

Trout Creek – On Saturday August 11, 2012 at 3:50pm, members of the Powassan Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting radar enforcement on Highway # 11 in Trout Creek. The officers had occasion to stop a southbound vehicle travelling 140km/h in a posted 100km/h zone. As the officers approached the vehicle, it was discovered that the front passenger of the car was in possession of an open bottle of beer. The resulting investigation and search led to locating more open and sealed beer as well as 27 grams of marijuana belonging to the driver of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, 46 year old John WILEY of St. Catherines, Ontario was arrested and subsequently released on an Appearance Notice for Possession of a Scheduled II Drug, Cannabis Marijuana contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. His first court appearance in North Bay will be September 11, 2012.

The passenger of the vehicle, 58 year old Terry MAIDMENT of St. Catherines, Ontario was charged with Consuming Alcohol in other than a Licensed Premises contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act.
