Two men facing serious charges following weekend ordeal in Noelville area

NOELVILLE, ON – An incident that began on Friday July 20, 2012 shortly after 3:00pm has come to an end resulting with 2 Sudbury men in custody and before the courts to answer to numerous and serious charges.

The search involved members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachments in Noelville, West Parry Sound, North Bay and Sudbury as well as OPP speciality units such as the Emergency Response Team (ERT), 2 TRU Teams, 2 Canine Units, Marine Units and the Helicopter Unit.

The Sudbury Regional Police also played a significant role in assisting with the investigation and the search.

As a result of the successful conclusion to the search, the following Sudbury men are in custody and face the following charges;

Damien SIMPSON age 22 faces charges of;

 Attempted Murder while Using a Firearm contrary to section 239(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

 Discharge Firearm with Intent – Endanger Life contrary to section 244(b) Criminal Code of Canada

 3 Counts of Careless Use of a Firearm contrary to section 86(1) Criminal Code of Canada

 Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to section 88 Criminal Code of Canada

 Break Enter and Theft contrary to section 348(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada

 Mischief Under $5000 contrary to section 430(4) Criminal Code of Canada

Troy BUTTINEAU age 39 faces charges of;


 Discharge Firearm with Intent – Endanger Life contrary to section 244(b) Criminal Code of Canada

 Break Enter and Theft contrary to section 348(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada


As the investigation continues, more charges are anticipated to be laid against both Simpson and Buttineau who will be appearing at the Sudbury Court house today.
