Oakville woman arrested in hit and run colission with a pedestrian

MAGNETAWAN TWP - On Tuesday July 17, 2012 at approximately 6:00pm police responded to a hit and run collision at Highway 124 near Highway 520 in the Township of Magnetawan. The collision involved a red jeep and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian involved in the collision was operating a construction truck, a white GMC Cab-Over tractor and he was responsible for blocking West bound traffic while a second truck was painting lines on the Highway. A red jeep also west bound decided to pass the line of vehicles stopped behind the road painting truck. The driver of the GMC tractor positioned his vehicle to stop the jeep and got out of his truck to speak to the driver. The driver of the jeep continued without stopping and struck the driver of the tractor who was standing in the street. The pedestrian was transported to Huntsville Hospital and later released.

The driver of the jeep drove away, however the incident was witnessed by an off-duty police officer which assisted police in locating the driver.

Police arrested and charged a female driver, Wanda WAKELIN (46) of Oakville, ON with fail to remain at the scene of an accident and dangerous driving contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. WAKELIN was released from police custody and is to appear in Sundridge Court on Tuesday September 25, 2012.
