The City of North Bay is offering a free one day program from the Lifesaving Society called Swim to Survive.

Swim to Survive tests the essentials needed to survive an unexpected fall into deep water- an important first step to being safe around water.

Swimming is the second most popular activity for children between the ages of five and twelve and these are important skills for them to learn.

It is important to know that Swim to Survive does not replace swim lessons.

The Swim to Survive program is being held on Sunday July 22nd at Birchaven Cove between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. for children between the ages of 6 and 14; the course itself runs for approximately 20 minutes.

Swim to Survive will teach them how to roll into the water, tread water for one minute and then swim 50 meters.

At the end they will receive a certificate stating they completed the Swim to Survive program.

Additional activities include lifejacket use and boat safety Registration for this program is not required; simply show up and go to the lifeguard chair.
