Driver flees scene of head-on collision

Nipissing, TWP – On Monday July 9, 2012 at 10:46pm officers from the Powassan Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a two (2) vehicle head-on collision on Hazelglen Rd in Nipissing Township.

A westbound Chevrolet Cobalt and an eastbound Dodge Charger hit head on as they both crested a hill in the road.

The occupants of the Dodge Charger leapt from their vehicle and began to flee the scene on foot. The driver of the Cobalt was injured in the collision and was bleeding from her face.

A male from the Charger gave her a shirt so she could deal with her bleeding and then also fled the scene.

Emergency crews attended the scene including the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Police began to track the occupants of the Dodge Charger into the bush until they came to a roadway, where the track was terminated.

The investigation continues as to the occupants of this vehicle and charges are imminent.

The driver of the Cobalt, a 62 year old female from Kawartha Lakes was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries, after she complied with a Roadside Breath Demand.

She registered an “Alert” and consequently had her licence seized as well as was served a three (3) day licence suspension.
