MVC closes Hwy17 at Drive In Rd & Leblanc Rd Update

On 05 July 2012 at approximately 9:30 AM a crash occurred between a delivery van and a fuel truck. The collision occurred as the driver of the delivery van attempted to cross the Highway 17 from Drive-In Road to Levac Road. The Eastbound fuel truck could not avoid the collision. Both drivers were transported to West Nipissing Hospital by ambulance and treated for minor injuries.

The OPP was assisted by West Nipissing Police and closed the highway for approximately eight and half hours. West Nipissing Fire Service initiated the cleanup under the direction of the Ministry of the Environment (MOE). An undermined amount of diesel fuel and gasoline did escape from the tanker truck.

The driver of the delivery truck, a 52 year old male from West Nipissing, has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act for Fail to Yield to Traffic on Through Highway.

Noelville OPP advise motorists that as of 5:50pm Hwy17 between Drive in Rd and Leblanc Rd in West Nipissing is now open.

Noelville OPP advise motorists that as of 9:40am Hwy #17 between Drive In Rd and Leblanc Rd in West Nipissing is closed due to a two vehicle collsion.

The road is closed to traffic in both directions and a detour is available to light traffic.

The estimated duration of road closure is unknown.
