Union Gas is helping the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) with their school based environmental awareness programs, courtesy of a $1,500 grant awarded today.

Don Beauchamp, Union Gas’ district manager for Northeast Ontario, presented the cheque to Brian Tayler, NBMCA’s CAO at the organization’s Natural Classroom at 15 Janey Avenue, North Bay. Vincent Massey Public School Kindergarten students who had been at the Classroom for a pond study were on hand for the presentation.

NBMCA’s Environmental Education program provides elementary school students throughout the watershed with an opportunity to enhance their understanding, knowledge and appreciation of our natural environment.

“At Union Gas, we believe in investing today to ensure a bright tomorrow,” said Beauchamp. “That means being environmental stewards and supporting important ecological programs in the communities we serve. We are very pleased to help the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority make this community an even better place to live and work.”
“Our children need to understand the natural environment in order to appreciate how we balance human needs with environmental needs. NBMCA’s Enviro Ed and summer camp programs strive to do that,” said Tayler.

Over the past 100 years, Union Gas has been privileged to work in more than 400 Ontario communities. In addition to natural gas delivery services for homes and businesses, Union Gas has contributed to the province through significant economic investments, hundreds of jobs, millions in municipal taxes, energy efficiency programs, thousands of volunteer hours for community organizations, major charitable giving and sponsorships. Last year alone, Union Gas contributed $3 million to charitable organizations across Ontario, including more than $900,000 to United Way. For more information visit uniongas.com/community.
