Jay Aspin, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming, Wednesday recognized significant funding made available to communities and organizations in the Nipissing-Timiskaming region through the Celebrate Canada fund and the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Over $25,000 will be shared between the Town of Bonfield, the Town of Mattawa, the Township of Temagami, the City of North Bay, Nipissing First Nation, Temiskaming Shores and the Town of Latchford.

Additional funding of $1000 has been provided to the Davedi Club of North Bay, where MP Aspin will be hosting a special ceremony on July 1st where guests will have the opportunity to reaffirm their oath of Canadian citizenship. MP Aspin’s Canadian Citizenship Celebration is free to attend and all are welcome!

Thousands of community organizations from coast to coast to coast will help Canadians express their pride in their country, thanks to support from the Government of Canada.

On behalf of Minister Moore, MP Aspin is encouraging constituents and visitors to take part in exciting activities being held from June 21 to July 1, 2012.

“As Canada’s birthday approaches, enthusiasm is building among the citizens of every province and territory. You are showing your pride in being Canadian and in the fundamental values we share,” said Minister Moore. “Canada Day is an opportunity to get together with friends and family to express your love for Canada and to pay tribute to the achievements of the men and women who have made our country the best in the world!”

“I am very excited to see how our communities will put this generous funding to use in their Canada Day celebrations,” said MP Aspin. “I am so proud to be serving our great nation in Ottawa and look forward to reaffirming my oath of loyalty to the Queen and to Canada.”

In 2012, the Government of Canada invested in approximately 1,750 Celebrate Canada projects and activities across the country. The program celebrates National Aboriginal Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Canadian Multiculturalism Day, and Canada Day.

On July 1, in addition to the many events taking place throughout Ontario, the Government of Canada will present a spectacular show on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
