Natalie Lucier, a graduate of Canadore College Radio Broadcasting and Sheridan College Advanced Television and Filmmaking (Documentary) programs is heading on an adventure in Johnstone Strait, BC this summer to film her first documentary.

Lucier will be spending most of the summer alone on an isolated island in the middle of an Orca Whale sanctuary photographing and shooting video of the whales. She has also planned interviews with whale researchers.

After interning with Rob Stewart whose documentary "Sharkwater" opened the eyes of the world to the immoral industry of shark finning, which has resulted in numerous governments around the world banning shark fin soup, Natalie hopes her documentary can raise awareness of the environmental issues facing the Orca Whale.

"I've always been fascinated by whales in general, but especially the Orca Whale, and I'd like my film to make a difference for these amazing animals" said Lucier.

Just a few short years ago a video she posted to Youtube featuring a Humpback Whale rising out of the ocean just a few feet from the camera was featured on CBC National News.

"There are a number of human-caused environmental problems for the Orca Whale. Recently, news that Tsunami Debris from Japan is washing up on shore along BC's coast is certainly cause for concern, but there are other human caused impacts as well."

Lucier will share more information about her planned trip to BC at the end of the month with the public and media on Tuesday night in South River, Ontario at Blue Canoe - 100 Ottawa Ave at 7:30 pm. Public and media are invited to attend to learn more.
