Harper marks National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement to mark the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism:



“Today, we mark the anniversary of the worst act of terrorism in Canadian history – the bombing of Air India Flight 182. As we remember those who lost their lives in this barbaric attack, let us also take the time to remember all the other victims of terrorist acts around the world.



“One of the best ways to honour the memory of the victims is to put measures in place to help reduce the likelihood of such heinous acts from happening again.



“That is one of the reasons why our Government is actively engaged in the fight against terrorism. By implementing an Action Plan on Perimeter Security and Economic Competitiveness with the United States, providing training and equipment to security forces in the Americas, Asia and Africa, investing in terrorism-focused research, promoting nuclear security by providing support to the International Atomic Energy Agency Nuclear Security Fund, and launching Canada’s first ever Counter-terrorism Strategy – Building Resilience Against Terrorism – we are making a difference in the fight against terrorism both at home and abroad.



“On this day, let us remember all victims of terrorism, and show our support for their families and friends.”
