Elliot Lake remains in a state of emergency

Following the collapse of the parking garage at the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake Saturday at about 2:19 pm, the Mayor of the city declared a state of emergency.

According to the news release issued by the City of Elliot Lake, Mayor Hamilton, declared a state of local emergency at 3:55pm in accordance with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, R.S.O. 1990, c E.9 s.4.(1).

Further reports indicate shoppers witnessed two vehicles fall through the roof on to the food court area below.

Emergency officials evacuated the mall and remain on scene investigating the cause of the collapse Saturday night.

ELLIOT LAKE – East Algoma OPP and Emergency Services is currently on scene at the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake due to a report of part of the roof collapsing.



The call was received at approximately 2:19 p.m. on this date.



Police are unable to provide information at this time regarding any injuries or missing persons.



Police ask the public to refrain from attending the area. If you are missing someone, please call 1-888-310-1122.



The City of Elliot Lake and the police are in the process of organizing an information centre. As soon as the location is available the public will be advised.
