Longtime community volunteer Jim Marmino (pictured above in the centre of MP Fantino, MP Aspin and MPP Fedeli) was awarded with a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal on Saturday by Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.

Marmino was surprised to receive his medal in front of 200 friends and family at the Davedi Club’s 60th Anniversary gala.

“Jim has been a dogged fundraiser for many causes in North Bay, and I’m very pleased the community decided to nominate him,” Fedeli said.

Marmino started out as a boxer, but then moved on to a long and rewarding career as a high school teacher. He has become the patriarch of North Bay’s Italian-Canadian community, organizing the Davedi Club’s many cultural events.

Saturday’s presentation was one of 14 Fedeli will make over the course of this Jubilee year.

The Diamond Jubilee Medal is a commemorative medal created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the accession of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the Throne and as a way to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
