On Saturday, June 16th the “Freedom Walkers” will be passing through Sturgeon Falls on their way to Toronto.

The “Freedom Walk” is made up of three police officers and two family members of victims of crime who started walking in British Columbia in April and are heading to Toronto, a total of 4500 kilometres. They are walking to raise funds and awareness for Victims of Crime, Violence and Bullying within our communities. Their theme is “I Have a Voice”.

They will be walking through Sturgeon Falls on Saturday June 16th starting at noon, and we are asking people to come out and show their support by walking with them through town or just cheering them on from the sidelines. You can join in at any point of the walk.

The walk through town will begin at the West Nipissing Police Service on Holditch Street and make its way down King Street to Queen Street and on to the Sturgeon Falls Recreation Complex where we will be offering free Freezes’ and there will be hot dogs and drinks to purchase. Proceeds are going to the Canadian Crime Victim Foundation founded by Joe and Lozanne Wamback. Footprints can be purchased for $10 and will be attached to the Walk’s support vehicle.

Freedom Walk can be found on Victim Services of Nipissing District’s Face Book page or at www.freedomwalk.ca for more information.
